How do you thrive in motherhood and feel happy?
The best starting point is to prepare yourself for matrescence – your transition from woman to mother – and learn how becoming a mother changes you.
When a woman enters matrescence she is changed – physically, psychologically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.
We don’t learn about this life-changing transition before we go through it, but we must! Because it can truly shake a woman up.
However, if you have understanding, information and tools around how becoming a mother changes you, you are on your way to thriving in motherhood (whether you are pregnant or have already had your baby).
Preparing yourself for matrescence is so important that I wrote a whole course about it – Write Your Empowered Matrescence Plan.
A Matrescence Plan is a birth plan for YOU – the mother.
Because when you have a baby you are also born – a mother.
The best way to start preparing yourself for this monumental personal shift is to understand matrescence, and yourself in matrescence, which is why I am giving you FREE access to the first lesson from my powerful, and popular, course Write Your Empowered Matrescence Plan.

Hi, I’m Dr Jen!
Mother of three, PhD-qualified neuroscientist, psychotherapist, meditation teacher, matrescence researcher, author of the best-selling book I Wish Someone Had Told Me…, and host of the top-rating podcast Mama Unleashed!
My mission in life (other than raising my 3 kids to be good humans) is to teach women how to psychologically thrive after childbirth (in postpartum).
Because this transition from woman to mother – known as matrescence – is huge! But we don’t talk about it, and then we wonder why so many mothers are struggling or feel lost.
Having knowledge, understanding and tools around matrescence, and how matrescence changes us, is life-changing, and will positively impact the trajectory of your motherhood experience.
There are many aspects to matrescence – it changes us physically, psychologically, emotionally, socially and spiritually. M my interest lies predominantly in how matrescence changes our brain and our mind, and therefore our feelings. And I love teaching mums how you can influence this.
I have been researching neuroplasticity – the brain’s ability to modify, change and adapt itself in both structure and function, as a result of our experiences and actions – for over 20 years.
Initially largely on a micro level in medical research, and in the last decade mostly on a macro level and in private practice with mothers and mums to-be .
Specifically, I look at how you can use the changes matrescence brings to your advantage, by understanding yourself in matrescence, and intentionally and simply training your brain and mind to feel happier.

I didn’t deliberately set out on this path. It was something that I unintentionally developed, when I was strugglingly indescribably after I had my third baby. I was desperate for a solution to feel happier in motherhood.
It was through my recovery from postpartum anxiety and depression, and talking to other mothers, that I realised: struggling in motherhood is the norm, and that this must change. For our sake and for the sake of our children.
I have now made it my mission to teach mothers, and mothers to-be, about matrescence, how it may manifest for you (depending on your unique neuropsychology), and mostly that the motherhood cards you are dealt are not the hand you have to play.
